ShadowBoxer Game Re-Launches After Resolution of Copyright Dispute with Dr. Dre

PC GamesIndie Hero and Shadow Boxer International announced today that, with copyright issues relating to its title resolved, ShadowBoxer, previously known as BeatBoxer, is now ready for deployment onto gaming platforms. Combining motion-sensing rhythm gameplay with hip hop, ShadowBoxer+ provides an intense boxercise workout, bringing body-tracking fitness gaming to the PC and Tablets for the first time, courtesy of developer Indie Hero.

Previously known as BeatBoxer, the game’s name was changed after Dr. Dre’s audio equipment firm, Beats Electronics, challenged the use of the word ‘beat’ in conjunction with a hip hop-related product.

Pairing cutting-edge motion-tracking from Extreme Reality with a deep hip hop soundtrack and years of experience in the ring from Shadow Boxer International, ShadowBoxer+ offers a fierce rhythm-based workout. Using a standard webcam, the game tracks your punches as you swing and jab in time to the music.

Additionally, a swipe-based companion game using the same core aesthetic and soundtrack, ShadowBoxer Touch, will be made available for iOS devices.

"There are already plenty of rhythm games out there for people who are into chart or guitar music," said Sam Smith, Lead Designer at Indie Hero. "We're offering a game for music fans who want something a bit harder. With the body-tracking PC and iOS versions of ShadowBoxer, we've got an intense, immersive workout game as well as something for hip hop fans who just want to get a little deeper into the music."

ShadowBoxer+ can be combined with Shadow Boxer International’s resistance training equipment to give an even harder-hitting workout. With three modes, Endurance, Hill Climb and Interval, users can get the benefit of high-intensity interval training (HIIT), with proven benefits in combating type 2 diabetes.

The soundtrack for both versions of the game comes from worldwide street looping artist DUB FX, who creates intricate rhythms combining elements of hip hop, reggae and drum and bass.

ShadowBoxer Touch is available for iOS Devices through the App Store from Dec. 11, 2013 at a price of $1.99. ShadowBoxer+ will be available on Dec. 18, 2013 on iOS devices through the App Store and for Windows 7 on Desura at a price of $3.99. A Windows 8 version is due out shortly afterwards, a date is yet to be announced.
